Clark and Ellen are still living on their farm with their daughter Missy, but due to drought, they are in financial trouble. Ellen works extra but becomes seriously ill and dies of scarlet fever. Missy tries to help and prove herself to her father but accidentally causes problems. After the loss of Ellen, Clark's parents consider taking care of Missy, which leads to a misunderstanding and Missy runs away. Clark and the village join forces to bring her home safely.
